Chair: Garance Wood-Moulin, IUCN Peatland Code Development Manager

High integrity carbon and biodiversity credits necessitate the independent verification of both credit claims and the proposed co-benefits of schemes to resource owners and users.
This Panel will critically examine several initiatives in this area. These include independent academic peer review and other mechanisms focusing on additionality, permanence and leakage. The Panel will also discuss how standards can be developed covering the social and economic co-benefits of credit schemes accruing to indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs). Distributed ledger options which facilitate the efficient and auditable registration of credits will be discussed.
