Despite the COP15 commitment to effectively conserve 30% of the world’s marine estate by 2030, there remains a vast funding gap between current spending on marine conservation and that required to meet the COP15 target. This Panel will explore the potential for marine biodiversity credits to contribute to the funding gap, paying particular attention to issues including prioritisation of sites, monitoring requirements and ensuring the financial benefits of credit generation are appropriately distributed to marine stakeholders. The Panel will open discussion on these issues and the question of how to elevate the profile of marine biodiversity credits with potential funders.
