The concept of natural capital is widely applied to denote the condition of environmental assets and the ecosystem services which flow from them. This approach emphasises the importance of ‘nature-based solutions’ which manage ecosystems to simultaneously benefit the environment and human wellbeing.
The corporate sector is increasingly encouraged to invest in nature-based solutions to both safeguard their own activities and conform with a growing body of regulation.
This Panel will discuss how the private sector can leverage such investment to reap financial benefits and reputational standing and will identify future trends in government legislation in this field. The Panel will open up discussion on how to embed this approach in corporate decision-making and how to work with government, shareholders, ratings agencies and others to best realise the various benefits associated with it.
